Star Wars Among Christopher Lee's Favorite Film Involvements

"I list those - `The Lord of the Rings' and `Star Wars' - among my favorite films that I have been a part of," Lee said from London during a recent telephone conversation. "Those films introduced me to new generations of fans, many of whom never heard of me as Dracula or the (Frankenstein) creature."

Lee, who will turn 85 in May, shows no signs of slowing down. He appeared in "The Golden Compass" (2007) and has already completed work on "The Heavy" and "Boogie Woogie," two films scheduled to be released this year.

"I still enjoy it and am in pretty good health," Lee said. "I have a back problem but I've had that for years. As long as I'm able to get on the golf course, I'm happy.

Wow I had no idea he was 85 years old!
He seems to be in really great shape for his age,
must be all that Darkside juice flowing in his viens keeping him young ;)

Peter Jackson tells a story about him during one of the LotR commentary tracks that I found amusing. Basically, during the filming of the scene where Grima stabs Saruman on top of Orthanc, there was some question about what sound effect should be used.

Jackson wanted to go with something squishy or whatever, and Lee, who had been a covert operative in WW2 before his stage career took off, said something like "no, no, Peter, have you ever actually heard the sound a blade makes when it's going into a man's back?" (or something like that, I'm paraphrasing from memory).

In any event, he's a pretty interesting dude.

I had no idea he was a spy in real life.
