TFU on the PC Watered Down?

Video Gamer.com has an interesting puff piece about The Force Unleashed, or more specifically, why LucasArts supposedly chose to release it on every gaming platform except the one with the most market penetration.

It seems that the PC tech specs needed to render the game's effects would be so outlandish that only users with $4000.00 gaming systems would be able to witness them, this according to LucasArts producer/PR man Cameron Suey.

Something's more than a little fishy about the fact that they're releasing it on the Wii, DS, PSP, and PS2, systems with far less gaming capability than your most basic low-end PC, and yet he doesn't say that the experience will be watered down on those platforms.

This happens often with games. They have developer kits to make the console versions with. They know their boundries at can make their best possible effort within them. When it comes to developing for the PC and then porting to the console things get complicated and watered down on that level.

This game clearly came to fruition with consoles in mind (check out the dev videos on lucasarts.com). My guess is that they are doing a PC version simply not to abandon that market.

No, they're not doing a PC version. Which is curious given that guy's statement of not wanting to 'water down' the game for people with lower class gaming PC's. All of the consoles except the 360 and PS3 will look and perform worse than the cheapest gaming PC.

Interesting point. There's really no way for them to come back with a solid answer on it.

well we know theres the PS3/360 version. and then the other systems are handled by a different developer.

im assuming they dont want to release the PS2/Wii level version on PC because the 360/PS3 version is superior. and they dont want an inferior port on a platform (PC) that is competing with the current gen.

just my 2cents.

It's probably more about licensing contracts with the different consoles, than anything else.
